If you’re looking for an electric car with about 400 km of range, the acceleration time of a V6 Challenger, and more than a whiff of East German Trabant to its styling, a startup company from California (where else?) could have the answer for you.

Or at least it might. In 2023. Hopefully.

The machine you see here is the Alpha Ace, a two-place EV described by its maker as an “ideally sized personal vehicle.”

It spans 165 inches in length, about a foot longer than a Mini Cooper, resting on an electric architecture which places its batteries flat underneath the passenger cabin. It is rear-wheel-drive and should scoot to highway speeds from rest in about 6.0 seconds.
