The Shelby Super Cars (SSC) video documenting the company’s attempt at breaking the record for fastest production car with its Tuatara has now come under enough doubt that the automaker says it’ll re-do the speed run to clear its name and prove the vehicle is indeed capable of 532 km/h (331 mph).

While most recently public statements provided by SSC seemed to confirm the record had been verified – at least until more suspicion was then cast on that confirmation – it’s now become apparent the veracity of the record is not at all certain.

What is certain is that the original video was put under some hard scrutiny by a few YouTubers, and that they seized upon some legitimate inconsistencies in the footage. SSC’s chief executive has since chalked those up to a production and distribution error.
