The world has a new fastest production car, the SSC Tuatara. Or does it?
The marque this past week released a video on YouTube showing the vehicle hitting an astonishing 331 miles per hour (532 km/h) on a stretch of closed highway in Nevada, and managing a two-way average of 316 mph (508 km/h).
But, did it really go that fast? Or was the video a fabrication?
A conspiracy theory promoted by YouTuber and exotic car owner Shmee150 and spread via a Reddit thread in r/Cars suggests the footage of the run may be doctored, and that perhaps the SSC Tuatara never achieved the top speed the company claims, instead – based on some video analysis and mathematical calculation – that it clipped 280 mph (450 km/h) or so.
