• BMW's next-generation M5 sedan will come in two versions: electric or plug-in hybrid, the U.K.'s Car Magazine reports.
  • The electric M5 will use three electric motors, producing around 1000 horsepower, and the hybrid will use a twin-turbo V-8 making around 750 horsepower, according to the report.

But BMW, whose M5 Competition sedan rocketed to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds during Car and Driver testing, doesn't have a gut-punching electric vehicle, at least not yet. It is working on electric versions of the 3-series, 5-series, 7-series, and X1, but, based on a report from the U.K. magazine Car, it could also be working on an electric M5 packing up to 1000 horsepower.
