SSC has beaten the world record for world’s fastest production car with its Tuatara — for real this time.
The Tuatara hit a blistering 279.7 mph (450.1 km/h) on its northbound run at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at the Kennedy Space Center; and 286.1 mph (460.4 km/h) on its southbound run, with both runs being completed within an hour of each other.
The average of the two numbers is 282.9 mph (455.3 km/h), which is good enough to break the previous record of 277.87 mph (447.2 km/h) set by Koenigsegg in 2017. Video of the run was shared by Driven Plus on YouTube, and this verified by several witnesses in several ways.
