In the sports car race, total horsepower always seems to make the biggest headlines. Now, with the spying of a trademark filing south of the border, it seems Chevrolet might be ready to juice the C8 Corvette’s total number with some help from electricity.

As reported by the GM Authority blog, The General has applied to trademark the name “E-Ray.” Short of being the nickname for someone working on Team C8, it’s very likely that title will be applied to a hybrid version of the mid-engine rocket from Bowling Green.

Stuffing a few electrons into one’s sports car is a great way to juice its performance stats — just ask Porsche and Ferrari, two companies that have created cars capable of eye-watering thanks to the marriage of electric motors and gasoline propulsion.
